An elderly African American couple sitting close together on a beige sofa against a plain light-colored wall. The woman is wearing a white outfit and has gray, curly hair, and she gently rests her hand on the man's shoulder. The man is wearing a black suit with a patterned tie and glasses, and has a gray mustache and beard. They are both smiling softly at the camera.

Resurrection Truths

As Christians, we embody a faith that is rooted in history and human experience. At no time of the year is this more important and imperative than at Easter. When we remember the death of Christ and celebrate His Glorious resurrection, we are embracing something that is real and transcendent. My brothers and sisters the reality of Christ’s resurrection is built on a solid foundation of historical truth. The resurrection of Jesus serves as the rock-solid, central foundation for Christian faith, essential to victory over sin and death. It is not merely a historical event but the defining assurance for eternal life and the truth of Christ’s promises. Without it, faith is baseless, making it the unshakable cornerstone.

We base this on evidence what we call the four E’s

Execution. Historians and medical experts agree that Jesus was truly dead after His crucifixion, not merely passed out or injured as skeptics claim.

Empty tomb. Even Jesus opponents admitted the tomb was empty. Their excuses were an attempt to explain how it got empty.

Eyewitnesses. Ancient sources corroborate the conviction of the disciples and others that they encountered the resurrected Jesus. In terms of ancient literature, there is an avalanche of historical data.

Experiences with the risen Jesus radically transformed the disciples into bold witnesses of His resurrection, which led to martyrdom for many of them.

As we prepare to celebrate the resurrection, I hope you’ll make sure the kids in your life know that the Easter story isn’t just important, it’s also true.

Jesus’ resurrection proved that His death was accepted by God as the atonement for our sins. If He had simply died and stayed dead, that would indicate His sacrifice was not sufficient. As a result, believers would not be forgiven for their sins, and they would remain dead after they die. (1 Corinthians 15:16-19)

The fact that Jesus rose from the dead matters because it fulfilled prophecy. Jesus prophesied His resurrection (Mark 8:31), and so did the Old Testament (Psalm 16:10–11; Isaiah 53:12).

Jesus rose from the dead, and Paul presents that event as the only thing that gives us hope in this life. Christ was the first to permanently rise from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:20), clearing the way for a future resurrection for all who believe (verses 22–23). Jesus’ claim that He has the power to grant eternal life is to be trusted because He Himself conquered death.

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Let’s get connected.
